Gas Dryer Pipe Help

We just moved in to a rental with a 3/8" gas valve for the dryer. The dryer we bought is 1/2" input. The connector we bought was 1/2" on both ends and we bought a converter to the 3/8" end. Had our electric/gas company come to check and there was a huge leak. He recommended NOT using a connector on the valve and that was the cause of the leak. I went to Home Depot and they do not sell/make connectors with different size ends. What do we do now????

Since it's a rental, you're supposed to call the owner. By code, it should be re-piped.

Thanks! Do you think the valve needs to be replaced?

The gas demand is very low in a dryer so the 3/8" valve is fine. Get a 3/8" to 3/8" gas flex line with an adapter to go to 1/2" pipe.

You probably got a flare fitting adapter..... not one for a flex line. There is a major difference. The adapters should come right with the flex line.

As always..... in a rental situation.... be sure the owner is aware of what you are doing.

Here's a picture of the 1/2" adapter Pete referred to. Almost all gas appliances have a female 1/2" pipe thread inlet regardless of the size of the flex line.
