How to Disconnect This Connection between Two Solar Panel Boxes?
The hex ends turn easily enough, but can't get separation. Am wondering if the center "sleeve" was soldered in and must be cut.
Will post photo as soon as I find a new photo sharing site. Photobucket apparently no longer works.

I added en enlarged picture figuring someone would recognize it. I see no takers.
To offer my take on it..... it looks like the fitting is attached firmly to one box and then the next box is slid into place. That would mean you'd need to slide one box away to remove the fitting. You could probably cut it but how would you reconnect it ?
I was looking around and found several solar water heater sites and they listed inter-panel couplers but none looked like yours.

Thank you, PJmax,
I did "loosen" both sides and then tried to gently pry the boxes apart with a 2x4, but that seemed to move the internals of both boxes to the point that I was afraid of damaging them. I did find a pure solar forum and posted there, too. The boxes are very well built, from the 1980s. Hopefully, someone knows about them.
