abandoned gas line

There used to be a gas grill on my patio. When it was removed, someone severed the plastic gas line in the ground and then capped the fitting inside the house where it exited my basement cement foundation.

Is there any reason to go to the trouble of digging down next to the foundation wall, knocking it out of the concrete and then plugging the hole with hydraulic cement?

Since its cut on one end and capped on the other I say "no"... no water is leaking into the basement or anything either. However, my brother in law says its a liability since someone could uncap the end inside and rehook it up. Very unlikely of course.

Would you go to the trouble of completely removing it?

The line being disconnected inside and the valve capped off should be sufficient.
