Gas heater or heat pump for pool?

24k gallon pool with vanquish in-floor jets. This increases circulation and keeps pool warmer during peak months. Pool gets direct sun from around 10:30-2:30. Pool currently 80degress, don’t want it any warmer. Would like to extend season in September with heater and provide earlier warmup in June. I had conduit run to accommodate electrical for heat pump, but then was told gas would heat up pool more efficiently at beginning and end of season.

My limited knowledge tells me that heat pump uses ambient air and if it’s 65 degrees outside you won’t be able to heat the pool to 75-80. And I also understand a gas heater would take longer to attain desired heat setting.

It would be difficult and expensive to run gas line due to all the hardscaping, much easier to install heat pump. But I don’t want to make the wrong decision based upon difficulty if install.

TIA for your input!
