Unjam/ open door
My son jammed our dogs leash in the door and the part that keeps the door will not retract to open the door. Any idea on how I can get this door open? Tried sliding a knife and credit card down the side

If it's an interior door - just pop the hinges, remove the door and the obstruction and rehang. You may or may not be able to do that on an exterior door [especially if it swings out] Pics showing the leash and how it's caught in the door could be helpful.

The leash is wedged between the door and door stop. This puts the latch in a bind. If the door latched, then it will unlatch. Push on the door to compress the leash and loosen the tension on the latch and unlatch the door.

@stickshift: good grief, you brought back memories from my old dorm days (1974)...and I thought we had an exclusive on that method...just goes to show, ain't nothin' new under the sun.

OP's photo shows evidence of the Kwikset knob being twisted so hard as to separate the retractor slide from the latch. So, yeah, pull the hinge pins or push hard to relieve the pressure while shimming ("loiding") the latch.
(The term "loiding" goes back many, many moons, when celluloid cards started to become popular... and were depicted on TV detective shows as a way to gain entry to the bad guy's apartment.)

had one today that was almost identical. I used airbags to spread the door from the jamb allowing the deadlatching pin to move further making slipping the latch (loiding) much easier. The doort opened and I replaced the latch.
