Question Removing 2-Key Deadbolt - Key is missing

Can a locked double-keyed deadbolt be removed if you do not have the key? It’s a regular Kwickset lock. The basement door is locked, I can get inside. If there’s a way I can do this myself, I’d rather not call in a locksmith.

There should be two screws on the inside lock visible in the tumbler that you need remove. After the screws are out.... both halves will come out.

Maybe but you might have to take the pins out of the hinges to take the door off.

If you can remove any screws on the inside of the lock you might have access to the mechanism to turn it without the key.

if there are one way screws, you may need to use a center punch and a hammer to tap the screws counter clockwise until you can get onto them with some vise grips to unwind. Often using a blade screwdriver and pressing hard while turning counter clockwise can get the screws started turning too.

I only did one of them. I used a drill. It took some time but it worked.
