Asphalt Shingles Protection/Sealer

Hi, I noticed that my Asphalt Singles (roof) are curling on the south side and some badly but only in specific areas. The north side is in good shape.

I'm assuming that the attic aeration could be the culprit but as I'm running out of time before the cold weather shows up I will, in this instance, try to find a solution correcting the symptom and not the source of the problem, basically I'd to protect or seal the asphalt shingles (in the bad areas only) to buy me some time.

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could share their experiences with a sealer they have used, product name, how to apply, time that it will last, any specs would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I was wondering if a Driveway Sealer can be used on the Roofing Asphalt Shingles ?

Even if your product is not available in my region I will google it for the specs and try to find an equivalent.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thank you!

Got some pictures?
Why would you want to seal it and make due when it should be able to be striped and done right in a matter of a day or two?

How bad is it? are there currently any leaks? Never heard of anyone using driveway sealer on shingles.

Doing it that way would also make the future removal a real nightmare.

I think it's advanced, curling etc..., see pic at end of thread.

are there currently any leaks?
No not yet (that I know of (or seen))

Joecaption: To answer your question, I'm no expert at roof shingles installation and I am physically challenged, so never I could make the full switch in a day or two nevertheless applying a sealing product as a temporary measure would suit me better and should take less than a day (for me).

Before posting this post I searched for a product without success and this morning I've kept searching again and found something that might do the work... see web link below, there is a 5 year and 10 year product, the web link is the 5 year product:

http://www.techniseal.com/sites/defa...ng_5_years.pdf

Note that I do not want to install the singles this year, I just want a temporary measure to go thru the winter.

See pic below, and note that I have other smaller sections of shingles that are curling and deteriorating as well (not in the picture), South Side.

Thanks for your help.

While elastomeric paints do a good job of sealing roofs and masonry I doubt it would be a good idea for your roof. It's likely that rolling it over those curled shingles will damage them meaning more work to prevent leaks.

I'd be more inclined to leave it be since it doesn't leak and make a concerted effort to save the money or arrange financing for a new roof in the spring [if this fall isn't doable]

I'll agree with Mark, stay off the roof and do it next spring. Looking at the nice straight lines I'd guess they knew what they were doing, proper felt, nailing etc.

I've seen them curled a lot worse than that with no leaks.

Curious, any idea how old these shingles are?
