Shingling a hip roof?

Doing the shingles on my porch hip roof. Do you cut the shingles at the hip or do you fold them over. I've videos of it being done both ways and I haven't been able to find answer. Thanks

Good. I woke up last night thinking I should have lapped them. Looked at some video and saw it done both ways. Just wanted opinions from others that know more than me. Thanks

I always first cover the hip with Storm and Ice shield, cut one side and over lap the other.
That way it does not leave a hump and the hip is better covered.
Have not had a leak at a hip in 40 Plus years doing it that way.

Whole roof is covered with ice and water barrier. I can still fold them over if I want. Just not sure how well they'll lay.
