Painting fascia board with drip edge already installed

On my house it's time to paint the fascia boards. This because I had to replace a section that was rotten. I didn't think redwood fascia boards wood rot. My question is how in the world do I paint and keep the drip edge there. Since I had to wrestle putting the drip edge back on for the section it was rotten I don't want to do that again if I can avoid it. I started rolling the fascia boards before I really realize that it's going to be impossible to get paint underneath that drip edge. So what are your suggestions for doing such a task?

When the drip edge doesn't paint, I just brush up to and under the best I can. The drip edge should protect the top portion of the fascia that can't be painted.

Some drip edges are set on a 1x2 which makes it easy to just paint the bottom of that 1x making it look neat. When that 1x2 is omitted you sometimes need to use your putty knife to gently 'pry' the drip edge out slightly so your brush can get in there without getting paint on the drip edge.
