Proper installation of Ridge Vent Caps.

Storms took off a section of Ridge Vent Caps and I headed up to reattach. As I started work, I noticed that the caps didn't have this strip of plastic removed. Some did, some did not. If I understand how these hook together, the strip covers a stripe of sticky substance that allows the tiles to sort of adhere to one another.

So, is this strip of plastic supposed to be removed?

The only purpose of the plastic strip is so that they don't stick together when they are lined up and laying one on top of the other in the package. It often has "do not remove" printed right on it. The tar that helps glue them together is on top of the shingle, not on bottom. The leading edge of each shingle is what gets "glued" down.
