Dye my carpet?

If they dye my carpet in my home will the old hardwood floors get stained under the carpet? I might want to refinish the hardwood floors one day and since the hardwood has no poly coating any longer I would think the dye would penetrate into the wood?

Good luck "staining" a carpet, bad idea to start with unless it's a natural fiber rug.
Plastic will not absorb stain.
Most likely there's a reason why someone covered the old flooring with carpet and would need to be sanded, refinished and repaired with the carpet strips are removed anyway.

Most modern carpets will not take dye. If they do it will be uneven and splotchy. They have stain resistance built into the fibers.

No, I would never attempt dying installed carpet in my home. Just think about it. To dye all the fibers and to get to the base of the fibers you will have to saturate the carpet. Just think where else the dye will get. Into the hardwood underneath and possibly drip into other areas if it's on the second floor. Carpet is cheap. Go ahead and replace it if needed.

It's a rentals property and carpet isn't cheap if you have to replace often. I'm thinking on going back to the old hardwood they will need some work but it might be better for a rental property.Name: 12-3-12 (1).jpg

If you refinish I hope you have a no pets clause in your rental agreement.
