carpet on carpet

I have a carpeted porch but the carpet is worn in an obvious spot. I was thinking of flipping the carpet around so the worn spot is in a less noticeable area. Or buying new carpet and putting it over the old. I am on a budget and also not able to do a lot of heavy work, so was just trying to save myself the trouble of ripping up the old carpet. Which plan would you think is best or should I just go with new carpet?

Never a good idea to put carpet over carpet!

I'm asked this question very often at the store. As Marq says, not a good idea. At best, if it's indoor/outdoor, you can throw a another piece on top, but don't expect results. The new carpet will creep and not be stable.

It will wear out faster because of the movement with each step.
