Carpet Sanity Check - Lowes
I am having my second floor carpet replaced. 4 bedrooms and a hall. 1000 sq feet.
After measurements, Lowes quoted 1300+ sq feet of carpet due to waste.
I dropped dead when they told me $6000.
So I found a bottom of the line Stainmaster, 10 year warranty, $2.16 sq ft. Stainmaster pad .99 sq ft. Now I am out the door at $4000.
This is with their "free" install.
I am still dropping dead a bit..

I would go to a locally owned store or find an independent installer. Both are usually more honest than a big box store.

There is no "free installation". They mark up the carpet and pad to cover it. The installers don't work for them, they work for an installation company and don't work free. I would be very surprised if it takes that much carpet. You will be paying for carpet they don't even send out. That is just more money in their pocket.

Thank you. What should I do to get an accurate bid. I will measure my rooms myself today, but I can't determine how much waste is really needed.

This is what I use. Sam may have some different info for you.
If it's a non pattern matching rug..... allow 5% extra.
If it has a matching pattern..... allow 10% extra.
