Removing carpet from original wood floor w/ a little surprise
Hi
I just bought a home built in 1953 and the prior owners placed carpet over the origibal hardwood.
I would like to refinish it, but as I was pulling it up, a 6 square foot section of the living room was missing. Instead, there were about 4 poorly cut pieces of plywood hammered with nails to the subfloor.
What was the reasoning behind this and how do I fix it? The plywood is too flush with the rest of the floor to install unfinished wood over it. I plan on sanding and staining.
I'd upload a picture but dont know how.

Welcome to the forums!
The flooring in those areas could have been replaced for several reasons; damaged or to gain access to repair plumbing [or whatever] Planning to install carpet would have taken away the need/expense to replace the affected boards.
Along with pics it would be helpful to know how wide the individual boards are.
