Rosin or Felt under Hardwood?
So this appears to be an age old debate, I don't know where it comes from, I don't know why it's even necessary. I am installing birch on the main floor of a house. It's nail down. Someone gave me a roll of rosin paper. Someone else suggested I use felt paper.
Can anyone help me understand the difference, and why one would use one or the other?
Thanks
Nic

The rosin paper won't do anything as far as moisture retardation is concerned. The felt will act as a moisture retarder. There are other products, e.g. Aquabar B which is 2 faced kraft with an asphalt layer in the middle which is a good moisture retarder and nice and clean to work with.
