1/2" ply under wood flooring?
I am prepping a floor for either hardwood, laminate, or engineered, depending on what the final decision will be. It is currently 3/4" ply on the joists which are 2x12 16oc. I am planning on putting another layer of 1/2" ply down. Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks.

More may be better but 3/4" plywood subfloor is really all you need for what you are planning on doing. You are taking on more work and more $.....but it's your time and $. Hardwood floors are typically installed perpendicular to the joists....your additional 1/2" of plywood would allow a parallel installation without a second thought. The minimum plywood subfloor thickness with 16" oc joists is 5/8".

Other considerations if you add to subfloor: Doors may have to be cut down if you increase floor height. If there are stairways that abut the floors the stair treads may have to be adjusted in order to remain code compliant.
