How to fix my floor

So me and my fiance bought our house and noticed how bad the carpet was and ripped it up. Started in the dining room. We noticed the hardwood floors but there is not sub floor the wood is not in the best condition and some parts you can see down into.our basement...what do I do so I can have nice hardwood floors?

How did you determine there isn't a subfloor? Can you see thru cracks in the floor? When was the house built? It wasn't uncommon years ago to use T&G planks for the subfloor. Pics would be helpful.

I have seen houses with no subfloor so it's possible. If you want pretty hardwood floors you'll just have to follow the normal steps to finishing a hardwood floor but first you need to determine if your existing floor is good enough. Some people want perfect while others want "patina" or "rustic".
