Carpet to hardwood transition?

What's the most elegant way to fix this (carpet fraying at threshold)?

T molding would work. Also, depending on the carpet thickness you could take a piece of your flooring and put a rabbet on a small portion of the bottom that the carpet can slip under.

water removes finish on old hardwoods

My wife and I just bought a house built in 1930 with some original (or at least old) hardwoods. My wife used a paper towel and some water to clean a spot on the floor and found that doing so had removed the finish of the wood. The spot now revealed grayish/raw wood. Any idea why this would happen? And what is the solution?[ATTACH]77331[/ATTACH]

I am installing a new sliding door on the back of my house and I'm pretty sure the new door is a little bit thicker than the aluminum one from the '80's. This will require that I cut the flooring back a bit and I was wondering if there are any tips/tricks for this. Type of saw recommendation, tooth count on blade, anything that helps result in a nice smooth cut and doesn't mess up the floor. Much appreciated
