new flooring and looking for opinions on vertical or horizontal install

i'm installing new 5" wide solid hard wood planks in my home to replace the 2-1/4" wide planks that have been warped over the years. i've included a layout of my 1st floor and wanted to get opinions on how to run the new flooring. the joists run east to west and on top of the joist is 3/4" pine installed diagonally. The area shaded will be the area the new flooring is installed in. Thanks for your time.

Lay it perpendicular to the joists.

Thanks appreciate the quick response. i think the hallway would like a bit cramped with this type of setup but i think we can live with that.
