White crusty stuff between joints on wood floor
Our vintage 1962 home has beautiful oak flooring throughout. In the living room, there is an area where white crusty stuff keeps appearing between the individual boards. I can wipe it down, and a day or two later, it reappears. If i let it go for longer, enough of this stuff appears that i need a broom and dustpan to pick it up. This just began happening a week ago, and I've found nothing that can be causing it. Any ideas?

The floor appears to be either original, or was refinished in a very professional manner before we bought the house two years ago. It is possible that my daughter spilled something there, as she sits in that area often. I'd post a picture, but photobucket no longer allows free hosting.

What is located above this area? Any discoloration in the ceiling? Flaking plaster or a patch above?

I believe I have solved the mystery. My daughter admits that she had spilled some sort of paint in that area, which she thought she had wiped up. After a few more wipe downs, the problem seems to have disappeared..
