Safety of unfinished hardwood?

Hi,
We just replaced subfloors in part of the house and I want to put down 3/4" unfinished white oak in my den. With more construction going on, it won't get sanded and finished (having a pro do it) for 3-4 months.
I know it can put out nasty splinters, so how safe is it to leave the planks down unfinished for my dog? Are the corners likely to splinter? Short of sanding the floor myself, is there anything I can do to make it safer?
Thanks guys!

We tore out a wood floor and have bunch of rugs that we step across, been that way for 2 months so its doable.

I wouldn't think it would be a big deal. A century or two ago folks would put the wood floor down and call it goo

Unfinished wood can get permanently stained by things which would wipe off a finished floor. Be careful.
