Refinishing wood floor without sanding....

The last time the my floor was finished was 10 yrs ago. Do I absolutely need to sand before refinishing? Is there a recommended strategy for people who don't want to sand first?

You need to sand! Now if you don't need a complete refinish and just need to freshen up the old tired poly all you need to do is give it a light sanding to scuff up the old poly so the new will adhere well. Don't forget to wipe up the sanding dust before you apply the poly.

Yep - don't bother because it's not going to work out. Polyurethane cures rather than drying so a light scuff sanding is needed to create nooks and crannies for the next coat to flow into and this is what creates the mechanical bond that keeps the layers from peeling.
