Connecting digital thermostat with external power

Hey all.

My first time here.

Just got new venstar t8850:
https://www.amazon.com/Venstar-T8850.../dp/B0170K01CE

And i would like to connect it to my AC at home.
Of-course the old thermostat don't have all the required wires (missing the C wire to power the digital thermostat) so i bought an external 24 VAC transformer to provide the power.

Where exactly should i connect the power, C & R?
Because currently the r has cable, so my new thermostat R will have 2 wires?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums.

You can add an external 24vac source when using the stat in heating only mode. It's not quite the same when using it in cooling mode only. I'm assuming in Fla. you have a heat pump system.

We need to know currently what color wires are on what terminals.
There may be an extra wire in the thermostat cable and possibly you can get a C connection.

A picture of the stat wiring is good and if you're able to get to the air handler easily... a picture of the wiring there would be real helpful. http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...-pictures.html
