C Terminal?
I have wondered for years why I had to use batteries to power my thermostat. I'm going to install a nest but want that c-wire. So I pulled my thermostat off the wall and noticed the wires not connected. I believe there was a blue and an orange that were tucked back into the wall. Then I ventured to the basement furnace. There I also noticed the same cable with all the colors but the blue and orange wound around the cable not connected to anything.
The chip board to the furnace has a spot for for the C terminal.
So my question is.....can I just hook that blue wire up to the terminal on the board, and put it in the thermostat with out any problems.
I seriously don't know why my hvac guy when we built the house didn't just hook it up.

Welcome to the forums.
The answer is yes.
There are spare wires in the cable for future use. They aren't connected because no one can see into the future. If he didn't need it.... why would he connect it ?

There has to be a transformer in your furnace/air handler to supply the 24vac for the control circuits.
