New thermostat wiring

[I]'m trying to replace a Honeywell TH8320U1008 unit with aTH8320R1003 unit. The wiring terminals are not the same
TH8320U1008-
black wire to E
white wire to AUX
red wire to RC/R
orange wire to O/B
yellow wire to Y
green wire to G
blue wire to C

the new unit TH8320U1003 has the same lettered terminals except that AUX and E are one terminal

The folks at Honeywell refuse to help with the wiring and told me to hire a contactor. On my social security income/ budget, that's a little rough. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Welcome to the forums.

You could check at the air handler to see if the white and black wires are combined which is fairly common.

You can connect white to AUX and tape off the black wire.

Thanks PJMAX for the reply. I don't know what you mean by "air handler. Also, I forgot to mention that we have a heat pump

Your heat pump is two parts....
the outside condensor (compressor) and the inside air handler (blower and electric heat strips).

The low voltage thermostat wiring and the condensor wiring meet at the air handler.
