Deleting Remote Thermostat Control Board for Ecobee Installation ???

I have a Carrier/Bryant heat pump with electric back-up with 2 zones. I have already installed an Ecobee on my upstairs zone thermostat as it had 7 wires but my main downstairs zone thermostat only has 2 wires connected to it even though its a 7-wire cable.

The downstairs thermostat isnt wired directly from the main control board, there is a 7 wire cable that comes out of the main control board and goes to a thermostat control board (T6-NRH01-B) and then there is a 7 wire cable with only 2 wires used that runs down to the downstairs non-programmable thermostat. Picture attached of thermostat control board.

Wondering if I can just abandon the thermostat control board and turn it into a junction box by just connecting the wires from the main control board 7-wire cable to the like wires on the thermostat 7-wire cable ?

Thanks in advance for your help.
