Smart thermostat for taco controller

I have hydronic 5 zone heating system in cold weather vacation home. I have installed go control z waze thermos in each room do that I can monitor and adjust temperatures. I installed them as battery only however they can run 24volt. The issue is I only gave 3 wines available. Only two wires are used to activate the taco valve control. Question is can I use the unused third wire and the white wire to supply 24 volts? When these batteries die the system shuts down do I need to be failsafe...

Welcome to the forums.

You may be able to get the needed C connection from the Taco controller but we need to see a picture of it first. There are many variations and some don't have a C connection and some have too small of a transformer.

Advice on using smart thermostat and baseboard heaters

Hoping I can get some advice on how best to proceed. My home is about 8 years old and my main floor is an open concept that is heated by three electric baseboard heaters controlled by a single dial thermostat. In the process of replacing all the older dial thermostats in my home, I discovered that my main floor thermostat seems to be powered by low voltage wiring. My understanding is that many smart thermostats won't work with electric baseboard heaters because they are typically power by line voltage wiring. However, as my current dial seems to be wired via low voltage, can I simply change out for a smart thermostat?Read More

Need help wiring from old Baystat 239a to Trane(Honeywell) NP Digital TH5320Uxxx

Have a question I hope you can help with. I need verification and help specifically with Black Wire for Emergency Heat and Y2 terminal connection the new Thermostats. I'll give you everything I have regarding info. Better to have too much, than too little. I found someone elses images of their old thermostats which are identical in look and wiring to ours and am using them as well as pics of the new thermostats. I just bought two Trane 3H/2C/HP capable Digital thermostats off of eBay to replace my old mechanical Weathertron Thermostats (Baystat239A). [ATTACH]76482[/ATTACH][ATTACH]76484[/ATTACH] These two new ones are Trane TH5320U1019-(BAYSTAT055A). Replaces THT02550 - 3H (Gas, Oil, or Elec) / 2C / HP They are Trane's version of the (Honeywell FocusPro TH5320U1001 NP Digital Thermostat for 3H/2C systems.) [ATTACH]76485[/ATTACH] Both of our units are Electric and 3 Heat stages with separate AUX and Emergency Heat, and outside Heat Pumps. Not sure on the Cooling stages 1C or 2C. ____________________________________________________________ Equipment we have: Upstairs: Trane/AS Twh018b140a1 VUp/HLeft Air Handler Trane Twr018c100a2 Heat Pump - XE 1000 - 1.5 Ton Dowstairs (Main Level): Trane/AS Twg025a140a VUp/HLeft Air Handler Trane Twr024c100a2 Heat Pump - XE 1000 - 2 Ton Each set of Air Handler and Heat Pump also has their own Baystat239A wired exactly the same. Orange to O/B Yellow to Y Green to G White to W for AUX heat I've heard Tan is unused and should be taped off behind the new Thermostats. I am uncertain on: Black to L for Emergency Heat (Originally X2 on the old 239a's) and Y2 on the new Thermostat. I'm not certain we have a stage 2 for cooling. Should it be left unconnected? Also that I have to set the Thermostats for the correct mode for our equipment before installing them, according to the manual it is mode 10 as it is the only option that covers 3H/2C (even though I think I only have 1C). Notes for mode 10 are: ____________________________________________________________ [1] Power supply. Provide disconnect means and overload protection as required. [3] Optional 24VAC common connection. [7] In Installer Setup, set changeover valve to O or B. [10] In Installer Setup, set system type to 3Heat/2Cool Heat Pump.
