Toilet flange vs joist

Toilet flange vs joist
Moving a toilet in a remodeled bathroom. There is a floor joist right where I would like to drop the toilet flange. Offset flange is still 1/2 to close. Curious what everybody thinks would be the best option:
1. Fir out the wall behind the toilet a couple of inches?
2. Install a 14" toilet?
3. Cut and box the joist? Least favorite option, obviously.

#2 may prove to be more expensive, but doable. #3 is always acceptable, but not done by plumbers very much. They usually cut the joist and install their toilet. Upon final inspection is when the carpenter is called in to fix it by boxing both ends of the joist.

Right on.
I think #3 is out. Too much messing around.
Do you guys prefer #2 based on aesthetics, keeping the wall of the bathroom smooth?
I did some quick searching and looks like 14" toilets really arent that hard to find, and really didn't seem that much more expensive.

IF you can find one reasonably, be sure to go with ADA or comfort height. You can thank me later. I would never install a standard height toilet again.

We both mention the higher seat as being more comfortable especially when we get older or have back, leg or knee problems. And I agree. But according to the latest studies the squat position is the better and healthier position vs sitting. If you do a search of sitting vs squatting you'll see many references. I'll just reference this one.
How bathroom posture affects your health.
The squat position is more common in the Middle Eastern and Asian countries. Several years back my younger daughter went to Turkey for an archaeological dig. After she got over the problem of being told and shown how to use the squat position she said it was more comfortable once you get use to it.
There is even a tutorial on how to squat using a western toilet. So start practicing or get out there and dig that hole in the back yard and start squatting.
