Question Tub and Shower Control Valve

Just ripped out an old tub/shower unit. The old control valve assembly remains. It's at least 25 years old but works.

Can I get some new trim and slap it on there or do manufacturers make their products so proprietary that I would have to buy a valve from the same manufacturer as the trim e.g. Delta for Delta?

thanks
Syb

You CAN purchase new pretty stuff for most valves, but in 5 years, after your remodel is looking spiffy and the valve malfunctions, or starts leaking, you may have wished for a new one. They aren't terribly expensive, and if your remodel is like most of mine, I highly recommend changing it all out.

Got to agree, now's the time to change it while it's all opened up.
