Question Replace Shower Drain

Ripped out an old tub/shower. In addition to it being very old it didn't drain very well and knowing the previous owners I suspect the trap is half filled with crap.

It's 2" up to the 1 1/2" Y for the o'flow and drain, is there any problem with making the whole drain 1 1/2" all the way up to the main?

thanks

I'm surprised that drain worked at all.
I'll wait awhile for the plumbers to explain why.
I'll give you a hint, water does not like to run up hill.

Likewise, I don't see how it drained at all, since the top loop of the drain is higher than the drain platform itself. No you can't make it 1 1/2" for a shower, only for a tub. Our resident plumbers will be along with a solution, but I'm not sure what it will be since you can't turn those 3" fittings on their side in most instances.

Thanks for the responses so far.

Yes, a tub is going back in there so a 1 1/2" drain line to the main would be okay, right?

Yes I kind of noticed the level of the drains when I took the old tub out. Very interested to hear solutions.

thanks

Well I guess whomever put this together feared backflow into the tub so they made the "T" vertical instead of horizontal.

So I'm going to cut out the "T", put in a horizontal "Y" and a new 2" trap.
