End of plastic measuring spoon lost inside garbage disposal

A small (1/4 tsp) measuring spoon fell down inside out garbage disposal and my wife ran it. We retrieved the handle but the disposal had chewed the spoon end off it, and now when you run the disposal you can hear it bouncing around somewhere inside the unit.

Is it possible this thing is in there somewhere that I can't get it out or can I pull the disposal off the sink and retrieve it?

My wife has small enough hands to reach in and get things out. I can't get my hand in.

A flashlight and some tongs will get it out for you, just hold the baffles open and peek on in.

I can't tell you how many "items" have been chewed up in my disposal.
The flashlight and tongues method works every time.

Ok, so I assume it can't get down in there where it's irretrievable? I tried to look down inside but I can't see much because of the baffle.

The metal is in there somewhere, it can be difficult to find. It won't go into any area of the disposer to where it can't be retrieved.

Normally you don't need to remove the disposer, just keep feeling around for it. Looking doesn't do much good. Some good ideas above are a shop vac, or a magnet.

No.... using your tongue is fine.

Most of those measuring things aren't steel.
Sometimes you need to give the disposer a quick shot of power. The piece will move around.

Sorry, it is plastic. I had that in the original title and a mod or somebody changed it after I posted it.

I changed the original title and plastic was not in it. It is now.

Do you hear something still in the disposer ?
Plastic can sometimes shred.

It you can't find it just use the disposer. Plastic piece will be ground up soon.

I looked real good with a flashlight all around the inside a few days ago, I still can't see anything in there but you can hear something bouncing around in it when you run it. I have no idea where it is or how big of a piece it's still in. I guess I'll just have to hope the disposal chops it up.

I thought I had mentioned it was plastic somewhere in the original post or title but I guess I didn't, oops.
