Toilet tank flush handle replacement

Toilet tank flush handle replacement
I need to replace the toilet tank flush handle so I bought a replacement handle at the local hardware store. I found that the part of the handle assembly that sets into the tank is square and the hole in the tank is skeleton keyhole shaped. I went to the plumbing supply house and all they had were the handles the fit the tanks with square holes in them.
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement handle that is made to fit a tank with a keyhole shaped hole?
TIA,
BWSwede

The toilet is at our second home an hour away. I will need to check that on my next trip. Since it is the only toilet in the house I was hoping to make the repair on my next trip.
Thank you,

I've been working on homes for over 49 years and never seen on with a "key hole" shaped hole.
May want to take it down to your local Hardware Store and see what they have to say.

Joe and I must be about the same age. I also have been doing this for a long time and have never seen a keyhole for the bell crank. In a pinch, until you can figure this out, take the tank lid off and pull the chain directly for a flush. I have had to replace working toilets just because parts were no longer available. There are a lot of good, reasonably priced low flow toilets. It may be time.

Thanks for the replies guys.
The square of the replacement handle fits inside the key hole. If anything, I would need to fill the space between the square and key hole with epoxy.
I don't want to replace the toilet with a low flow because when I put in a tank insulation kit the low flows don't flush completely. I need a tank insulation kit because our water comes into the house at under 40 degrees year round.
Thanks again,

I drove up to our second home to make the toilet repair. Using epoxy it was quite easy to do (we'll see how easy it will be to take apart in the future). While I was there I snapped a picture of the existing hole in the tank. The manufacturer of the tank is Crane and the model of the tank is "Neuday".

It doesn't need to seal as it is above high tide. I am with you regarding the notch.
The trouble I had was finding a handle to fit that shape. I even the tried the plumbing house that has been around forever, who has never failed to have the correct part for me, and they didn't have anything.
