How to replace toilet chain

The toilet chain snapped in my toilet, and as i was going to replace it, i cant seem to remove the old one from the flush lever. Is there a special technique to removing it, or am i supposed to reattach the new chain to where it broke off?

You can't just add more chain because the flapper will probably stop working properly. Often you can reconnect the chain with needle nose pliers.

Replacing the chain should be a simple affair. Chains often have a pin you remove. If possible, send a photo.
