Question Remove toe-actuated tub plunger

Years ago I installed one of those toe-actuated tub plungers in my bathtub. (You know, the kind you press once to close, press again to open.) Anyway, it's not working any more, so I want to remove it and replace it. I know how to remove a drain shoe, but how do I remove the plunger itself? I googled around and can't find an installation manual to work backwards from.

Some unscrew while some have a plastic cover in the center that you pop off to reveal a screw. The unscrew type can sometimes be annoying as soap scum and corrosion can stick the threads. Sometimes putting sideways pressure on it while unscrewing helps. You can also try a thin pair of needle nose pliers underneath to grab the stud directly. The stoppers are so cheap that I don't waste too much time on them. If it wont come off I break the top part so I can grab it's mounting stud with a pair of pliers.
