Clean Toilet Fill Valve?
Can the valve below be disassembled and cleaned.
Background: It has been partially clogged for years but yesterday the city replaced the pipe to the meter on their side and now it is totally clogged. I verified the supply valve and line is clear.
I know it's not expensive to replace but would like to try cleaning if possible.

I don't know if they can be disassembled or not. I know I wouldn't even consider it unless I had a replacement handy. You might try back flushing the valve. I often get debris in my lines from the water company working down line. Sometimes back flushing is easier than disassembly.

You'd probably need take it off but you'd run the water thru backwards .... maybe with the help of a water hose. While I've done it with the interior spigots I've never tried it on a commode fill valve.

If you're going to have to remove it to clean it, I'd spend the $10 on a Fluidmaster 400, moving into the 21st century and be done with worn out parts. 10 minute job.

Yes it can be cleaned and rebuilt. But not worth the effort. As stated above, buy a FM400 and at the same time replace the flapper too. In for a penny, in for pound! May as well start out with all new internals and avoid another repair a month from now.

Yep, I forgot about the flapper. Change it, too. Wifey called from Denver yesterday saying the downstairs toilet was running off and on. I told her to look in the tank and wiggle the flapper. Eeewww, you're kidding me? Nope, it's clean water. She said the flapper was slimy, so I told her to call SIL and have him bring a new one home. I love remote repairs.

Just turn off water and remove ball and arm. Then remove top. Unscrews I believe on that model. Maybe snaps off.
Clean it and turn on water a little to flush out wile open. Not too much or water will hit the ceiling. ( Ask me how I know!!! )
