Odd Faucet Handle Repair

Our bathroom sink faucet handle fell off and I'm baffled as to how to get it back on. Photos attached.
There is no hex bolt on the outside of the handle as is common. I can't figure this one out and the folks at Home Depot were baffled as well.

I can't see the top side of the handle. Is there a cap there? It looks like there is a screw that goes into the cartridge.

There are no cap on top of the handle. Photo attached. But there is a female-threaded screw port inside the handle. Photo attached.

Turn off the water under the sink as I am not sure if this will expose the cartridge or not..

But the chrome piece here should unscrew CCW. Then you will see a screw that attaches to the handle from the bottom up..
