Snaking Tub Drain ?
Hello Everyone - Quick question, I have a very slow draining tub and I'm pretty certain it's do to a hair clog. I was hoping to snake it, but when I remove the drain cover, I can't even get an inch down the drain without hitting some metal. Is anyone familiar with this type of drain and explain how I can get snake down there ?
Thank you
Thank you

Thanks for the info Furd, that makes sense. I also have a closet that backs up to the tub and I'm wondering if there might be a drum trap behind the closet wall, would that make sense ? House was built 1965.
I will try snaking through the overflow

The trap would be lower than the tub. Could be tough to see even if the closet wall was open as it's usually directly below the wall framing.

I once had a house with a Tub which had a trap underneath, with a plug (1") that could be unscrewed for drainage, or for a small snake to be inserted from below . . . . in the basement.

If the clog is right below the drain shown in your picture you can sometimes get to it by using a metal clothes hanger with a slight hook on the end....small enough hook to fit through the small opening.

Take the overflow plate off, 2 screws and run a small drum snake down there while the tub has some water in it. Drum traps were long gone by 1965. Use a small (1/4"0 hand snake and you will see the water take off. No draino of electric! should be no problem.
