Outside hose bib spigot

So I have an outdoor water bib( Hose Spigot) super close to the brick siding and can't break it loose. I am afraid I will twist the copper. I can see the threads so I know it is threaded on. I tried heating but am not sure how long to leave the flame on. Any ideas

Can you get at it from the inside? I'd replace it with a winged adapter if you can.

...assuming you don't need a frost-free hose bib.

Stubborn Toliet Issue

Busy on a reno in my basement. Reinstalled my toliet with new flange, new seal last weekend. Was fine but on Wednesday started to hear a gurgling sound when toliet flushed. gurgling indicates a clogg or air in the line. Toliet stopped flushing this morning. Did the usual remedies: dish soap, hot water, vinegar, plunger but no love. Water sits there. I took the toliet apart and no clogg in the toliet itself. There is standing water about 8" down the pipe , about where it turns at 90 degrees. I ran an inspect camera down the line to 8 feet and can see nothing wrong. Ditto the main clean out for the house - looks clean to 8 feet, the length of the inspect camera. Took a look at the air vents on the roof and there's no blockage that I can see going down 8 feet with the inspection camera. After we cleaned up the inital leak and soaked plywood subfloor last Fall, I had a company come out to check the line and they ran a camera all the way to the street and everything looked good. That was in November 2017. Toliet was not used between Sept 2017 and June 2018 as I worked on other renos. Anyone have any further tips or thoughts on the issue?Read More

Rust on bare metal beneath tub caulking -- best way to fix this?

We bought our house a few years ago and are still discovering just how "handy" the handman was before who "fixed it up" before we bought it. The most current issue is that it looks like they caulked over bare metal in the bathtub (spout/showerhead side). As the caulking wasn't a solid job, it cracked a little while back and got wet and the caulk appeared to rust. I just removed the caulk and found that entire seam (showerhead/spout side) was bare metal and rust beneath the caulk (no enamel beneath the caulk). I think removing the rust and applying caulk is the wrong answer, and I think that's perhaps what happened before. I think a right answer may be: remove the rust (CLR?), apply a rust converter, and then try to caulk over it? Should I be looking at removing the rust and trying to apply enamel, then caulking it? It looks like it'll be very tough to get sandpaper in the seam in order to prep it for enamel. It's barely large enough for a paper towel to slip in.Read More
