Thermostatic valve removal from shower

Hi I read and couldn't find answers to this problem. I am trying to replace the thermostatic valve on a valore vs-2000. The problem I'm facing is with removal of the existing valve where it's blocked by au ring with 2 tiny holes. I have never seen this and have no clue on removal of this. Any clues or help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I can’t match your picture to the manual but look at page 15 Thermostatic Cartridge Cleaning. Did you remove part #4? It looks like that just spins off and then you take plug #6 out from the bottom and then pull out the cartridge with pliers. Is that dark background around the ring in your pic part #4?

Thanks for taking the time to post. I did do all that. The manual is missing steps for this u ring. Apparently saw the same in a gym barbell as well. It seems I'll have to remove a brass ring on front of it before I can pull the valve. No ideas how'd IIl do it without damaging it. I'll keep trying. Thx .

Figured it out. These are called retaining rings and a retaining ring pliers can take them out easily.

That's good, and very good to know how you got it out.
