Thermostatic valve - do you need to clean it / signs it's not working?

We have a toto thermstatic mixing valve on our shower

https://www.totousa.com/3-4-thermost...ugh-valve-only

being thermostatic, it should keep the temp constant as much as it can? We are finding that we have to manually turn it warmer as the shower time progresses.

We've thought - yeah, winter time, incoming cold water is colder than in summer / it takes more hot water to get the shower temp we want, so you have less shower time?

Nothing scientific here, but it seems that the sink tap hot water still is 'hot' while we have to turn up the shower (ie the hot line temp is dropping?).

The valve is 3 years old. Cleaning out papers from filing cabinet, we came across the manuals for the toto items and in the thermostatic valve booklet, it talked about disassembly / cleaning of the cartridge.

Is that anything you'd do? How often?

Would needing to turn up the temp over 10 - 15 minutes an indication of problems wiht the thermostatic valve? or just wintertime temps ? water heater is set to between b-C (near the top of the temp range it offers).

THANKS!
