How to remove drain in stall shower

I am replacing the shower base . I have enclosed picture of drain after we cut out the base. How do we remove the drain part so we can get to pipe in side the drain? The shower base is a little over 40 years old.

If it's old steel drains I'd be cutting all of it out and replacing with PVC, and replacing all the supply's with PEX.

PJ, this is the drain from the other thread. In the other thread he got everything removed down to the trap.
