Shower Lever Handle Question

I replaced a knob handle with a lever handle on a Delta shower, but due to the knob being "deeper" than the lever, there is this white part sticking out. What should I do here? Is it as simple as getting a chrome piece to cover the white space, or does something need to be removed?

Thanks!

It appears that isn't the correct lever handle for that Delta faucet, is that what Delta told you to buy? Did Delta sell you that thing? I believe I'd call them back and return it.

That looks like the handle for a Delta ball type faucet.

Was this a knob to handle kit or just a handle that you thought would fit?

It's the wrong handle for the faucet set. The only solution is a makeshift method. If you can find a chrome tube of the right diameter you can cut it to fit. Check out sink tail pieces both 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 size.
