Ruined leather on Human Touch Chair

What should I do? I don't mind big ugly patches. Apparently the leather on these was defective and it happened to virtually all of this model - it's less than 10 years old. I got it very cheap. I'm willing to spend up to $100, but I'm not experienced with this type of thing.

Hello and welcome to the forum! Are you sure it's real leather and not bonded leather? I'm thinking it may be bonded leather and if so, it's not fixable. If it is real leather, not sure it can be repaired beings it's so big. It may need to be recovered, in which case it's going to be a whole lot more than $100.

Probably bonded leather. I don't think real leather flakes like that? What about the self-adhesive patches like this? https://www.amazon.com/Leather-Patch...=leather+patch

Never tried much upholstery repair but I'd say that chair is a lost cause. Start looking for coverlets that you could put over it.

Any repair patch you make would need to cover as much of the seat as possible... little 8x11 patches the size of notebook paper won't do much good... too many edges to glue down. If you patch it, I'd say to look in a fabric store for faux leather (the thinnest most flexible you can find) and use contact adhesive on both sides to bond it. (after you have cut it out and test fit it, obviously.

XSleeper's idea sounds pretty good or the Slipcover idea. You could probably find an inexpensive one to just throw over and cover the whole chair.

Maybe a 20" wide patch that goes from the back of the seat to the toes. It would look like a racing stripe. LOL

I guess that would work but I don't think you need the twist pins. They may rip the covers eventually.
I was also looking at these (just suggestions) you can find others by searching for Recliner Cover with Elastic:

Recliner Slipcover (if it fits, this would cover the whole chair)

One piece cover (these are easy to cover and inexpensive)

One piece cover (waterproof)

Thanks, that first one (4 piece) is the one I ordered. I'll post a picture once I get it.
