Floating vinyl planks moisture barrier and/or underlayment?
hi there,
been goggling the subject for a couple of hours now and getting a little confused. i have 3 projects that i need done. 2 are floating vinyl planks and 1 is floating laminate plank (i'll ask in the other forum).
1st project:
i want to install luxury vinyl plank flooring, floating, in the 2nd floor bathroom. the subfloor is 3/4 inch plywood over joists. there will be 1/4 inch plywood attached to the original 3/4" plywood.
do i need a moisture barrier? do i need an underlayment?
2nd project:
i want to install luxury vinyl plank flooring, floating, for the kitchen floor, similar situation to the bathroom. 3/4 inch plywood over joists. 1/2 inch plywood over the 3/4 inch plywood (previous owner had vinyl sheets glued down).
do i need a moisture barrier? do i need an underlayment?
3rd project: i'll post in the other forum as well.
i want to install, laminate plank flooring in the living room, floating, thin pad already attached. over 3/4 inch plywood subfloor over joists.
do i need a moisture barrier? from what i've read, i should NOT use a moisture barrier as it may lock in moisture in the plywood subfloor.
thanks in advance!

No on all three counts. This is a duplicate of http://www.doityourself.com/forum/so...er-needed.html

Not sure why your doing all that searching, just read the install directions right on the box or on the manufactures website.

thanks for the responses. and thanks for merging my thread into one.
one more question: for the kitchen and bathroom with floating vinyl planks, will i be doing any harm if i added an underlayment for sound and warmth?
thanks again!

Vinyl generally gets installed on 1/4" plywood underlayment. Again, please read and follow the actual directions from the manufacturer.
