Vinyl flooring over carpet

Everyone says you shouldn't put laminate over carpet that's on a basement floor- I have low pile carpet that the hubs wants to keep, but I want a fresh clean look. I'm thinking vinyl- any suggestions would be appreciated!

You mean vinyl like a sheet vinyl? Bad idea for many reasons. It will slip and slide on the carpet. Any furniture would leave deep impressions even with commercial office style carpet.

I agree! any sheet vinyl over carpet would be a bad idea. What about a large area rug?

Too much vertical movement even in a low pile carpet. Anything with a click lock floating floor would most likely fail. Anything peel and stick would fail and leave residue on the carpet.

Your shoes might even poke holes in the vinyl. Anything dropped on it would definitely make holes in it.

Time for a New Hubs

Get a new Hubs and your current one can take the carpet with him. Then you can get a new vinyl floor that will be installed correctly on the substrate.
