Best primer for self stick vinyl plank over old hardwood

I'm installing self stick vpf over old hardwood floor. I know, I know, don't use ss-vpf, but the customer absolutely insists. That said, I want to make sure I have a good surface for the vpf to stick. One contractor that said he used Elmer's Construction glue(?). He would thin it with water, roll it and let it dry. He claimed it works the best. Has anyone used it? There's also Henry's bond enhancer. Could I use just use Kilz2 or another primer instead of Henry's? Thanks in advance!

Kilz2 is about the last thing I would ever use anywhere a primer was needed.

Does the vinyl manufacturer have any suggestions in their instructions?

I never use Kilz2 because it's a poor stain hiding primer and it's been reported to have adhesion issues. I'd suspect a solvent based primer would be best .... but do contact the vinyl manufacture to get and follow their recommendation!
