Removing mortar and mesh

I am remodeling my bathroom, and have removed the original tile. Underneath, adhered to the plywood subfloor, is mortar, and what looks to be mesh tape, possibly glued down. I am removing as much as I can with a chisel, but a good portion is still stuck. I am goingName: 1461774978355609616205.jpg

Tape....what tape? I see plywood and the pattern left behind by the lath that was removed, right? Let's clear that up to start.

I think the mesh you are seeing is the remnants of larger squares of smaller tiles held together with it. It is not an integral part of the installation separate from the tiles. I don't think it is lath.
