Old, hard, black, gunk in intricate floor tile
My friend in Pennsylvania sent me this.

It's too tricky to get at with a putty knife, given it's likely gone down into the channels, or whatever they are.
He used to have products that might have softened this up, but they got tossed out a long time ago.
Nothing short of metal pins or wires might penetrate this in its current state, he said.
The only other suggestion he's gotten, was to use bleach, though no specifics were provided. It's right under his elderly father's bed, and it's bothering dad to no end.
