Ceramic tiles over variable surface
I have just hit a major setback in my renavation - I ripped up the carpets and found parquet flooring. I already bought the floor tiles for the entire area - the area I inspected (by cutting out patches of carpet) has cement screed; but 2 other areas of the same floor, has 2 different types/thickness parquet flooring also on cement floor.
The parquet is down good and solid and in very good condition. My main concern with regards to removing the parquet, is that one area has a very thin block (less than 10mm), so screening the floor won't be an option if I am to match the height of the other surfaces.
I have read a number of threads on this site and most are of the opinion that tiling over the parquet is a bad idea; but those all seem to be concerns over movement of the parquet over timber.
Should I be concerned about laying the ceramic tiles over this surface?
I was thinking that I could use a key coat over the parquet (same as ai would over old tiles or surfaces with glue residue), but the amount of installers cautioning against timing over parquet (on this and other forums) have me in a panic.

The parquet is not suitable for tile so another game plan needs to be figured out. Any plank type wood flooring is too unstable to use under tile. So the parquet is on cement?
Perhaps a picture would help - http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...your-post.html Picture files need to be scaled down for web quality in order to upload.

I agree, you can not put tile down directly on any type of wood. Consider putting down a layer of 1/4" Hardie Backer or cement board.

Depending on when the parquet was installed, it could have been installed with the black cut back cement. I agree that the parquet should be removed, and hopefully the glue will pop off with the wood. I had one a while back and was quite lucky in that apparently the constitution of the concrete prevented a really good bond and it all popped up easily with little residue.

Holy cow guys, now someone is recommending installing tile backer on this floor when the floor is concrete. That's worse than talking to the clerks at the big boxes. Let's start giving out good accurate advice....and if you don't know, say so and wait,.......OK?
