Bad odor from Denshield

I now have read that Denshield can have a bad odor like cat pee. We couldn't figure out what was causing the smell. Then read old posts about it. Has anyone been able to get rid of it? How????

How long does it last?? It's already been 4 months.

Welcome to the forums.

I know nothing of the product but I like to investigate. It appears to be an ongoing problem that has been around for many years. From what I got from what I read.... the problem is the manufacturer did not allow the product to completely dry before stacking it and that smell gets locked into the sheets.

Here's a thread on it that was posted here and there is a link to more info there.

All of the respondents recommended contacting the manufacturer directly.

Denshield is not meant to be a finished surface. It is a tile backerboard and as such should be encapsulated behind tile which will eliminate the smell. Most cement backers have an odor during the installation which totally disappears once you install your tile.
